The Journey Into Witchcraft
Where the magic began
I, like many, found myself connecting with the spiritual during lockdown. As we were all unwittingly separated from society, I had more time with myself. The societal pressures of certain ideals slipped away, and I found a certain peace in unifying myself with the energies of the universe I was starting to notice.
And then, just like that, I found witchcraft. I don’t remember exactly where I first came across the practice, but once I did it started to pop up more and more. While hesitant at first, I realised witchcraft was a practice of connecting to nature and finding power in oneself. It seemed to me like a belief system for those who care for the world around them, and want that love for themself too. I learnt I could go outside and bury my toes in the grass, and that on its own was an act of witchcraft. It was beautiful, and I wanted to learn more.
As I would recommend to any new witch, I started with protections. I burnt dragons blood incense, I lit a protective candle in my room each day and I drew pentacles around my space. Then, I made my first spell jar - a “banish negative energies” jar - and… it worked. I noticed a shift in the energies around me. The room I kept the jar in felt like more of a peaceful place than before, and I felt less willing to put up with negativity directed at me. It was wonderful.
For anyone debating practicing witchcraft, I implore you to at least give it a go. If you try it and it’s not for you, then that is completely valid. But if you try it and you love it, then you’re in for a world of self love, power and appreciation for the universe around you. Dip your toes into this pool of magick and discover just how warm the water is.
